This page is an experiment I’m trying out. I got the idea to write what I laughingly refer to as “SQL bedtime stories” from a recent contest sponsored by Idera Software. The purpose of the SQL Victory Contest was to basically explain how you vanquished the beast. The grand prize included a 7 day Alaskan cruise for two, airfare for two to Seattle, and one seat in the SQLCruise onboard training. It was far too tempting of an offer to bypass. So I wrote a “little” story in the form of a fairy tale. Funny thing is it’s actually based on a true story, believe it or not. I received some great feedback on it and someone commented that it reminded him of the princess stories he reads to his little girls at bed time. So it got me to thinking… what if I wrote more of these stories and post them on my blog? It could be fun.
While I was a tad disappointed that I didn’t win the contest (who wouldn’t be?), I was thrilled that Doug Lane (Blog | Twitter) won with his spectacular video! I laughed my butt off and watched his video at least 3 or 4 times (I lost count). If you haven’t seen it yet, you have got to watch it! Congratulations, Doug! Great job! 🙂
There truly were a lot of really great entries. I tied for runner up with Jes (Blog | Twitter). Sweet! And there were quite a few Honorable Mentions. For the list, go here.
So here we are! I enjoy writing and thought it would be a good stress reliever. If you enjoyed my little story from the contest, you’re in luck! I’m posting it here as my first “SQL bedtime story”. I’ll add more when the inspiration strikes. You have been warned! 😉

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all.
